Donna Hurt
Being born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia
contributed to Donna’s abiding connection to land and
wildlife. A keen observer of the community and life around
her, she was using her camera to document life in the mountains
by age ten. The desire to capture and preserve through
image making propelled her to receive a BA in photography.
Donna’s
interest in myths and storytelling is evident in her various
photographic series and video projects that deal with her quest
in understanding the environment, the community and her identity
within it.
After working in the commercial industry and being a medical
photographer, she
returned to school to receive her MFA in 2005 from The School
of the Art Institute in
Chicago. While in school her exclusive use of still images
shifted to incorporate performance and video. This shift
opened a new venue for her concerns of sustainability, the
environment, and the body to be explored. Currently she
lives and works as an artist in Charleston SC. |
