Anthony Greene and Family
The Clemente Program is a life-changing college level humanities course that teaches literature and philosophy such as Shakespeare and Plato, along with history and art history, to people who are disadvantaged. Students include the homeless, ex-cons, recovering addicts and poor single moms.
Tune in as we take you into the home of Anthony Greene, an ex-con who is now working full time as well as running his home repair business—and is making sure his children get a solid education.
You’ll also meet Suyapa, who struggled to integrate into US society and is now a translator at MUSC.
Joel tells us how he lost his job, became homeless for a year and a half, and then turned his life around with the help of Clemente.
And you’ll hear heartwarming stories from Margaret.
We’ll also talk to mentors and to Dr. Mary Ann Kohli, the much- loved professor who brought the program to South Carolina after recovering from breast cancer. And Pat will take you into the classroom to hear what students have to say about how poor people are perceived in the community and how they would like to be perceived.
