Could you run your car on chicken fat, fryer grease, or oil from soybeans? Could you do something today to reduce pollution and US dependency on foreign oil? If you’ve got a diesel, you can.
This week’s episode features Ian Sanchez, Executive Director of LEEP (Lowcountry Environmental Education Program), who not only talks about biodiesel but also sings and tells about the revolution that needs to happen in alternative fuels. He joins a lineup of guests that are as varied as Randy Holton, a Folly Beach doctor and pilot who recycles cooking oil from Taco Boy, and Jaime Tenny and the guys from Southeast BioDiesel, a company that is going to produce six million gallons of biodiesel on the old Navy base in N. Charleston.
Join us for a fast-paced romp through images of a New Zealand biodiesel racing boat to a Lake Wylie couple and their electric truck. Mike and Paula Moore have a business that converts cars and trucks to run on electricity and were recently contacted by Mexico City to convert their entire taxi fleet.
You’ll also meet Mike Goldson, a Charleston accountant, who runs his truck and farm equipment on biodiesel, Sharon Fincke, owner of A Center for Well Being, who tells why she converted her Mercedes, and the students at Garrett Academy of Technology, who are learning to make biodiesel.
New Zealander Pete Bethune spent three weeks in Charleston promoting the Earthrace boat, a wave-piercing trimaran designed to break the world record for a circumnavigation of the globe while running entirely on biodiesel. Bethune describes the transitions needed in the energy economy for biodiesel to become a viable alternative.
Due to the fact that our executive producer was dropped on her head as a baby, we have the following corrections to make:
- Julie Gindhart was not listed in the credits. She did some fine camera work on this show and even with a sick baby, she came through for us at the last minute.
- The names of two of the Garrett Academy students were transposed--Bobby Duncan and Josh Summey.
Many apologies! |
